Poteen: Canadian Comfort Food or Irish "Moonshine". Which Is it?

I was under the impression via Tony Bourdain, that Poteen was any good comfort food that was served on a bed of fries ... with melted cheddar cheese and "gravy". Now, I find it has to do with the equivalent of "popskull" in Ireland. Don't tell me the Irish need moonshine? Since when? Take me Elizabeth! I've seen it all!!
